Norma’s work life began as an Ohio State Trooper. As a child, she loved law and possessed a passion for law so by the age of 21 she had become one of the first women Ohio State Troopers and began her career, helping others. However, after being injured while on duty, she left the career path that she loved to find a different way to continue to help and advocate for others. Nursing was a perfect fit. She went on to become charge nurse on a ventilator trauma unit and later manage a pediatric nursing agency and large assisted living. She was happiest when she could trouble shoot a concern and help someone fix a problem.
Yet, while she loved advocating for people and had a very successful nursing career, she continued to hit road blocks with care costs and frequently she had to find alternative methods to advocate for her clients. Her attempts to help find resources frequently led her to government agencies and legal advocate work. It was through her knowledge of the law that she was able to cut through the red tape to help those in need obtain services that were greatly needed.
Her entrepreneur spirit and love for law and contracts eventually drew her back to school where she earned a bachelors' degree in legal studies at Florida Gulf Coast University. She felt this this education would enable to use her legal background and medical knowledge to further her assistance of other. She founded Able Advocates in Cape Coral, Florida where she continued her advocate work. This effort was rewarded when she was contacted by Cape Coral and awarded Best of 2020 for Able Advocates' work with a reactive web page and advocate assistance.
Norma’s elder law experience familiarized her with Medicaid and Medicare advocacy. She learned the many challenges that families face as people age. Many times, care is difficult to afford and families find themselves searching for ways to provide long term for their parents or disabled children. Additionally, her time spent working for the Salvation Army respite unit as a nurse had given her keen knowledge of indigent medical programs and taught her how to access resources for those who could not afford care.
North Florida Legal Support was created as a means to continue her legal document and advocate work with others. Through her company, she can help individuals with advance directives and basic document preparation or point them in the right direction to solve their problems. If the person requires the assistance of a licensed attorney, she has a network of very reputable and reliable attorney that she trusts to care for the people that she cares about.
Work with real estate and advocate for the elderly led her to realize that many elderly or disabled persons, have a tough time navigating the sale of a home. Or, for that matter, the management of the home. The disabled and elderly are frequently taken advantage of because of their lack of resources. She became a Senior Real Estate Specialist in order to help seniors who are downsizing or relocating. This real estate training enabled Norma to find a way to reach out to help those in need. She did find that being a sales associate did come with limitations so she worked diligently over the pat ten years and and obtained her Florida Real Estate Broker’s license.
Norma’s Florida Broker's License opened the door for property management, home watch and elder watch services. This has enabled her to minimize the ability of shady individuals and businesses to prey on her client.
